USB Loader GX

Usb Loader GX is a custom interface developed for Wii that allows for the playback of retail Nintendo Wii games from an external hard drive. If you are unclear as to what USB Loader GX is, then you have some catching up to do! You must satisfy these requirements before you can successfully run Modern Warfare 3:

  1. Your Wii must be soft-modded; if you do not know what that means, I have written two guides on the subject. If your Wii's firmware is 4.2, refer to my "How to hack a 4.2 Nintendo Wii" hub. If your Wii's firmware is 4.3, refer to my "How to hack a 4.3 Nintendo Wii" hub.
  2. Download this pack and unzip the contents to the root of your SD Card. If you unfamilar with ".zip" files, and you are running Windows, simply right click the zip file and click "Extract All..." or "Extract Here" if you have WinRAR installed.
  3. An external hard drive or flash drive formatted in wbfs format; if you do not know what I am talking about, refer to my hub here.
  4. A copy of Call of Duty: MW 3; if you have the disc, you can simply rip the game to your hard drive using USB Loader GX. You can also obtain an ".iso" copy of the game, but don't ask me where to find one!

Your SD Card should look like this once you have extracted the contents of "CoD_MW3_Pack.zip" to the root of your SD Card

The Process!

Okay, the contents of your SD card should match up with the picture on the right, if not, format your card and extract the contents once more. When your SD Card is set up correctly, proceed:

  1. Boot up your Wii > USB Loader GX > CoD: MW3
  2. If you get stuck on an infinite Loading Screen, then you will need to a new custom firmware. If that is the case, hard reset your Wii. You will need to install "cIOS249[57]-v20.wad". I recommend the Wad Manager app for this. Once that is installed, reboot your Wii and run Modern Warfare 3 again.
  3. This time, the loading screen should zip by rather quickly depending on the speed of your hard drive and/or flash drive.

If you plan on playing Multiplayer, there are a couple extra steps depending on what version of the shop channel you have and whether or not you have actually used it.

  1. Try and boot up Multiplayer, if the game prompts you to start the Wii Shop Channel, hard reset your Wii and boot up the Homebrew Channel.
  2. Homebrew Channel > WiiMOD > Change IOS > 36
  3. WiiMOD > Wad Manager > Select SD Card > Install "IOS56-64-v5662.wad" and "Shopping Channel-NUS-v20.wad"
  4. Boot up the Wii Shop Channel, if prompted with any policies or agreements, say yes to them. The Wii must have record of you having done this. You will know the Shop Channel is working correctly when you are presented with the Club Nintendo Membership screen on the right.
  5. Boot up CoD:MW3 one more time. This time when you select Multiplayer, the game should prompt you with the screen on the right. Accept the update and you are good to go!

Happy Fragging!

Hi! Great guide and the single player works great but I can't get Multiplayer to work y'see it says "NOTICE:Can't connect to server, check your internet connection" but there's nothing wrong with my Router or Internet service I booted up my PS3 to check and it works fine.

I'm using a softmodded 4.1u with Wiiflow (USB loader GX just gave me code dumps)

@HigurashiAffect,

All I can tell you is to do a connection test in your Wii Settings.

When I go into MW3 the second controller turns off. If I try to turn it back on it just blinks and turns off. Any ideas?
