How to get Call of Duty: Black Ops to work with Usb Loader GX

What is Usb Loader GX?
Usb Loader GX is a homebrew application for Wii that allows users to play games backed up on an external hard drive. However, if you have to ask this question, then you have a few more steps ahead of you before you are going to be able to play Black Ops from an external hard drive. You must satisfy these requirements before you can successfully run Black Ops:
- A soft-modded Wii; if you do not know what that means, you will need to refer to one of my guides. If your Wii is version 4.2, read my "How to hack a 4.2 Nintendo Wii" hub; if your Wii is version 4.3, read my "How to hack a 4.3 Nintendo Wii" hub.
- Have the homebrew channel installed.
- The following programs: Usb Loader GX, DOP-MII, and Wad Manager. If you don't have them, download this pack and extract the contents to the root of your SD Card. You will need to make sure the SD card is formatted and completely empty before doing so. IF you do not know how to extract a rar file, download 7zip and use that. If you do not know how to 7zip, I explain it in the hub mentioned above.
- An external hard drive or flash drive formatted in wbfs format; if you do not know what I am talking about, refer to my hub here.
- custom firmware ios 249 base 57, if you do not have it, click here to download it.
- Lastly, a copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops; if you have the disc, awesome, if not, you can also use an iso copy. Now, how to go about obtaining said iso copy is up to you, I cannot provide that information. It might easier to simply go and rent the game since you will only need it for a few minutes.
If these steps have you completely confused, then you will need to reference these two hubs in this order and start from scratch:

A few simple steps
Provided that you satisfy all the conditions above, you will need to follow these steps to get Black Ops working on your Usb Loader GX.
- First, place the cIOS249[57]-v20.wad that you downloaded above and place it in the "WAD" folder on your SD card. If you downloaded the pack above then your SD card should look like the image on the right.
- The three programs you downloaded must be placed in the apps folder, if you downloaded my pack above then you have all these programs and a lot more. If your screen looks like the image on the right, then you're ready for the next step.
- Open the homebrew channel and navigate to the wad manager, run it and install the cIOS249[57]-v20.wad
- If you receive an error while trying to install the wad, then open the homebrew channel and navigate to the DOP-Mii program and use it to delete ios249. Then repeat step 3. If step 3 fails again, reinstall the cios14 by using the cios14 program in the homebrew channel.
- Once the wad installs correctly, run the usb loader gx (either located in the homebrew channel or as a stand-alone channel on your system menu)
- From the usb loader, click on the Black Ops, but do not click on the spinning disc just yet. Click the settings button on the bottom left. On this screen adjust the settings of Black Ops so that the "002 error fix" is set to "anti" and the "ios" is set to "249".
- Attempt to play the game, if you are faced with a black screen then you've done something wrong, if not, great! Now all we have to do is get the online multiplayer working!

Online Multiplayer
Okay, once the actual game is working, this is the easy part!
- Select "Multiplayer" from the main menu
- Make a new profile, and then make another profile
- Be sure to select the first profile and try and connect.
- If it's your first time, it'll prompt you for an update, don't worry, it won't ruin your homebrew, get the update.
- After the update finishes, reset the Wii and go back to the multiplayer screen, this time it'll say "Play Black Ops Online." Click that and wait about 20 to 40 seconds and you'll be connected.
- Just make sure you do not delete the 2nd profile, even if you don't use it. There must be two profiles present or the server won't connect you.

Honestly, hacking a 360 is more trouble than its worth for little payoff, you can't even play online!
A PS3 on the other hand, those are GREAT to hack, and fully functional, I hope to writing an extensive article on one of those early next year

Hey i wanted to ask how can you make it so you can play online on 3.4U call of duty black ops. It says i need to update but i don't want to update my Wii. Cause it tells me to go to shop channel and download black ops update.

Will the Update Harm anything?
Because I’ve heard that Cross Region Updates will Brick the Wii.
If it does work, is safe to Update Wii Shop channel?
Because when I went to download the Update from Wii Shop Channel it asked to Update the Wii Shop Channel.

And to be honest, you're better off downloading the PAL version of the game if you're using a PAL Wii
I’m not to sure what Firmware it is.
But I managed to get it working Online, with my Cross Region Game.

I suggest you sign up first, so you can download from the links.
So here are the Links, to the Shop Update, and it also Updates Black Ops.
So once you install this into the Wad Manager, you won’t have to go to the Wii Shop Channel to Update. It automatically Updates it.
But be careful, i’m not sure if it will brick you Wii.
And I suggest you read everything before Installing.

If your Wii is 4.2 or 4.3, ignore the above comments, I updated mine using the update button on the game without supplementing any hacks or such on each of the said firmwares.

I got working COD on the USB loader and its all cool. thing is that I cant get the multiplayer mode to work. it aksed for an update but it doesnt show up like when you do it in a normal wii. it says something about going to the shop channel and downloading something, I already got the last wii shop channel but doesnt work. what do I do?

yes, if you read above it says to get the update, only reason you have to go to the shop channel to do it is because your wii is on 3.2

Hey alidade, great post thank you for all the nooks out there. Question, I got the game to play just fine in single player mode. I setutwo profiles and went to nintendo wi fi connection and it just stays in a state of constant "please wait". Any ideas on how to fix. Thanks a million..

Awesome! It worked for me perfectly and my son was able to get online. I'm so thankful because I have been trying to get this game to work for a week! Every time I tried, it would get to the black screen and stay....then not load my games again until I reinstalled the cIos. thanks so much!!

the headbanger headset works perfectly with the wii regardless of how the game is played (by USB drive, Burnt Disc, Retail Disc)

then i have lan adapter=1 slot
all slot fill
i want headbang headset but that =1 more slot, would a usb hub open more slot on wii?
hmmm... I don't know of any usb hubs that will actually work on the Wii, you could try google for it, but even then I don't think you will find anything. Your best bet is to take out that lan adapter and connect to the internet via WiFi, leaving that usb port open for the headset.

Ok. My Full Question I want a FULL Answer on. I have A Softmodded wii with 4.0E PAL. Its fully softmodded and anything would run on it. I have a whole SHIT of bunch of CIOS installed on it and obviously i do NOT wanna lose the Hacks or any HBC Files. Now. Black Ops When i turn it on asks me to have a Wii Shop account. To do that i need to go to Wii Shop Once and agree to the User Licence. I have USB Loader GX... Now if i go to Wii shop it will Update my wii which i DONT Want. Now i am gonna use Krank's guide to updating Wii shop to v20. So then will i be able to just Enter Wii shop from the wii menu? and everything will be cool? Ill be able to run my BO update from the game? Please someone answer. I really wanna play Black Ops and without Wii shop its a no-no. Please help me. Alucard. Since you have Softmodded wii you must know this. and you probbly have experience, I want that experience. without losses. Please tell me if i got it all right, and if not. Tell me what to do please. I'm not saying to FULLY UPDATE your wii, I'm saying you can find a 4.2 Wii firmware wad and install it. However, if it is easier for you, go ahead and update your wii to 4.3 and follow this guide to hack it:

You must follow all the steps, make two profiles, it must be TWO PROFILES, and then click the online play option, it will ask for an update

im unable to even create a profile. something about not able to create save data in the wii system memory. any suggestions as to why?

do you have a lot of wads installed? Sounds like you do! Go into your Wii data management menu and delete some stuff, and you'll be good to go!
I dont have that many installed. i go into the wii data management, and it says i have like 700+ blocks free

well this is odd isn't it? Which version of the game are you running? If it is a PAL and your Wii is NTSC, it could potentially cause an issue. Also, you could try deleted your BlackOps data and starting over from scratch. I'll research other solutions...
Ya i know eh? im almost positive that its the ntsc version, and as i live in north america, i have a ntsc wii.
all the other games i have do work from the usb drive. i know there are going to be inherit problems with this kinda thing. anyways, if i figure anything out ill post.

I finally got it to work. I dont know exactly what was going on, but a new version of the loader (cfg loader and gx loader) seemed to fix the problem.
hi i need your help i use usb uploader gx and threw your help by downloading the cios 249 thing my black ops now works but its only lets me do multiplayer team deathmatch when ever i try and do zombies online it sais i need a update so i click ok and it sends me to the wifi multiplayer screen but no update comes up or anything do you have any sugguestions to make zombies multiplayer work i have the pal version

I own Blops but my daughter lost the disk couple days ago. I DL'd the iso, put it on my external drive & got hung up on the black "Loading" screen til I switched to ios 250. With much relief, I got back to the online killing. Only problem......TERRIBLE LAG!! My connection was fine but the lag was kinda crippling. Any idea if there's something I can do to resolve it?

hi, Got homebrew. and 4.3 (misstake to install) I need to install ios 249 and other cios. But when starting Wap manager or similar, my wii remote just disconnect, i.e. I can not press A to activate the ios update. Suggestion?
Uhm... I've got a question about Black Ops. When I click on "connect to Nintendo Wifi" in the Multyplayer menu, there doesn't appear a "Update Requierd screen" so when I want to play online, I don't find anybody to play with!
Knows anybody how i can get that Update-Requierd-Screen appears???

The online was working fine for me, up until a few days ago. I could connect to the lobby, but when it tries to put me into a game, it doesn't and instead starts a new one, but no one gets on and the game never starts. Same thing's been happening with MW reflex and World at War. It's weird.
usb loader gx says "usb drive not found" Maybe because i had my waninkoko usb ios installed on 249?
Okay, so I seen on youtube and in the new list of codes for Call of Duty: Black ops. That someone was able to get the Black ops store show up under - Black ops online - Combat Training. I can't seem to make it work or have it show up. Am I doing something wrong? Any Ideas? I was able to get the update for the online. I use usb loader GX, I have version 4.2U.

Alucard thanks for showing me how this works. I was able to install Lego Batman and it works well. Now the only problem i'm having is with Black Ops. I was able to install it and I did everything you mentioned up to step 7 and i'm still getting the black screen when I click to play. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

I have a Wii softmod 4.3e, usb loader gx 2.3. cios rev 21 installed. the game starts en i can play, also online, bud after a few minutes playing the game (about 15min)the game freezes and get stuck. I load the game with cios 249, 002 fix anti. Can somebody help? I think it is the general cios for usb loader gx. Wich cios must i use for loading usb loader? Yes it Will work i have 4.3e , just install cios 249 rev21 en THE newest USB loader. Start THE game USB loader gx when THE disk spins in USB loader gx click options set THE game cios on 249. There you go.
I think its bad on Wii so THE ps3 is much better.

hi guys, i see mane people are having trouble connecting or finding a game, just wanted to add that be sure that your copy of the game is the same region as the wii otherwise you won't get the complete update, you'll only get a part of it.
I got past the loading screen by changing that game to load with 250. Dont know if Ill have any other problems latter in the game but at least it loads and starts now.

i made 2 profile and pressed and tryed to connect and it says that i dont have to re-download something and it doesnt say black ops online mine says nintendo wifi connection and i pressed it then it brings player match,private match and the rest.when i search for a match it get stuck when it searches soo help me.
@ Alucard_1990 I had recently softmoded my wii got got all my games on an exterior hard drive..they were all playing great except black ops and modern warfare so I google this article and decided to wipe my sd card clean and start from scratch however when I put your "pack" on my sd card and put on wii system I get this message saying :this installer cannot continue!
